Who We Are

AMI International School (AMIIS) is a private, Christian school in Cobán, Guatemala.  We seek to deliver world-class education in an under-resourced region to prepare students for universities around the world. Following a successful dual language model, our school aims to equip the students to graduate being fully bilingual and literate in both English and Spanish. Additionally, our hope is that the students will also receive a solid biblical foundation through their time at AMIIS and will use their knowledge and faith in God to transform their communities

 We have incredibly dedicated students and parents (and an ever-growing student waitlist), and we are looking for equally dedicated elementary teachers for the 2024-2025 school year to join our team of professional educators. Start date would be July 2024.

  • 2nd Grade English Teacher

  • 4th Grade English Teacher

  • 6th Grade English Teacher

Essential Role & Responsibilities
  • Use provided curriculum to teach core content classes in English: English Language Arts, Math, Bible and Science.

    • Spanish Language Arts, Physical Education, Music, Art, PE and Computer are taught by subject-specific teachers

  • Maintain working hours from 8:00AM-4:00PM

  • Plan, organize, develop and conduct a comprehensive teaching and instruction programs

  • Monitor students’ understanding of the lesson and adjusts teaching when appropriate

  • Hold each learner individually responsible for learning

  • Use results of a variety of assessments to monitor and modify instruction as needed

  • Organize, maintain, and use records of student progress to make effective instructional decisions

  • Continuously monitor students’ progress before, during, and after instruction, and provide meaningful feedback

  • Provide a motivating and stimulating learning environment

  • Follow safety procedures and school safety policies

  • Work effectively with staff, students, and public


Content Knowledge and Planning
  • Exhibit an understanding of and skills relevant to the subject area(s) taught

  • Demonstrate an ability to make topics and activities meaningful and relevant to each student

  • Integrate available technology resources compatible with students’ needs and abilities


Student Communication and Rapport
  • Demonstrate the love of Christ by modeling respect, caring, fairness, courtesy, and active listening

  • Model concern for students’ emotional and physical well being

  • Seek and maintain positive interactions with students in all school settings


Classroom Management
  • Enforce the school’s student behavior policy

  • Communicate clear expectations about behavior to students and parents

  • Actively monitor student behavior and provide feedback in a constructive manner to students and parents

  • Establish routines that promote learning and minimize disruption

 

Qualifications
  • Native English speaker

  • Teacher credential (preferred)

  • Experience working with children

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Willingness to learn and grow professionally.
